Newcomb is the most respected and successful coach in the history of high school athletics in the Antelope Valley.
Coach Newcomb is clearly the greatest coach in the history of high school football in the
Antelope Valley. During his 26 years as head coach for Antelope Valley High School before retiring after the, his teams won three section titles and played for the championship three other times. The Antelopes won 18 Golden League titles in that span, and Newcomb was named Southern Section Coach of the Year in 1988 and 1994.

Brent Newcomb, Antelope Valley High School
He was an assistant coach at AVHS for nine years before taking over the head job, coming to the Antelope Valley in 1969 following a stint in Vietnam and his discharge from the Army. He had been an assistant coach one year at Douglas (AZ) High School before entering the service.
A graduate of Coolidge (AZ) High School, Newcomb played football, basketball, baseball and track for the Bears.
He received his bachelor's in education in 1965 from Arizona Teachers College (now Northern Arizona University) and his master's in physical education from NAU in 1971.
Newcomb had a hand in the development of some of the greatest players to come out of the Antelope Valley, including Tommie Smith, Jermaine Lewis, and Johnny "The Rocket" Walker.
Newcomb recorded his 200th victory Oct. 10 of 2003. He finished with a career record of
204-108-3, including 11 Golden League titles and Southern Section division
championships in 1981 and 1994.
Newcomb resides in Lancaster with his wife Pam. He has two sons Brian and Brandon.
