As a freshman with the Cougars, he earned the team's Top Offensive Rookie award, when he led the team in rushing. His biggest game that year came against Utah State, when he rushed for 217 yards on 33 carries, scoring 3 TDs. After red-shirting in 2003, he came back in 2004 as a sophomore. He earned All-Mountain West Conference second-team honors, starting six games at running back. He led the team with 789 yards rushing and 6 rushing TDs. He came back as a junior, and this time earned First-team All-Mountain West Conference honors as he rushed for 1,123 yards.
He has produced a school record 11 career 100-yards games, including six during his junior year in 2005. He had a 219-yard, league season-high, four-touchdown performance against Air Force, and a 153-yard, two-touchdown outing against Wyoming. He finished with 210 carries on the season for 1,123 yards, averaging 93.6 yards per game, along with 53 receptions for 454 yards. In 2006, his final campaign, he broke the 1000 yard barrier again, becoming the first BYU back to do that in two consecutive years. He also has 62 receptions, and helped his team beat Oregon in the Cotton Bowl.
Brown has an excellent chance of being selected in the 2007 NFL draft.
