Youth Sports Hall of Fame
Rudy made an immediate impact at Arizona State. He had over 1000 yards rushing and receiving going into his senior Sun Devil campaign. Originally a running back, Rudy has made the transition to wide receiver and kick returner under coach Dennis Erickson. He has an outside chance of getting drafted to play on Sundays, and will surely be invited to an NFL camp if he is passed up on draft day.
Rudy will always be remembered as one of the most exciting players to grace the football fields of the Antelope Valley, and one of the area's most gifted and diverse athletes.
Rudy Burgess, Desert High School
Perhaps no player in AV Prep history provided more thrills then Burgess
Virtually any time Rudy Burgess touched the ball for the Desert Scorpions, amazing things were bound to happen.
As a senior, Rudy rushed for 1,235 yards and 12 ouchdowns and caught 22 passes for 656 yards and 9 more scores. He also scored on a punt return and a kickoff return, and returned two interceptions for scores. He also had 13 receiving TDs and 8 rushing TDs, and 7 more on returns, as a junior.
