Youth Sports Hall of Fame
Tony was a member of the U.S. U-17 National Team pool. He was a four-year letterman at Quartz Hill High, and was all-league from 1997-2000. He was Team captain, Team MVP and the Most Inspirational Player in 2000 after leading the team with 20 assists. He was named to the Daily News All-Area Team his senior year, and was Team Defensive MVP in 1998. He led Quartz Hill to the Golden League Championship in 1998 and 2000. He was USYSA Region IV team captain. He played club soccer with the Claremont Stars, which in 1999 won the Surf Cup and were finalists at the Dallas Cup. The Stars also won the regional championship in 1998 and 1999.
At UCLA, he was a Second-team All-Pac-10 selection as a senior, and All-Tournament selection at the Rutgers Classic. He was a key member of a UCLA defense that posted nine shutouts and compiled a team GAA of 0.76. He was UCLA’s Most Inspirational Player his senior and junior year.
Lawson was team captain in 2002, when the Bruins won the National Championship.
