AV athletes shine at Mt SAC
April 20th, 2008
The Antelope Valley was represented well at one of the nation's oldest and most respected track high school track and field events, the 50th annual Mt SAC relays, held this weekend in Walnut, California.
Christen Rivers of Palmdale led the way, winning the winning the women seeded 400 meters in 56.90. Saibra Noel was a surprise winner in the womans seeded shot put with a throw of 37-06.50.
Highland Boys relay team of Jameer McDaniel, Anthony Edwards, Jose Espeleta and Leonice Brown turned in the days guttiest performance, winning the mens 4x400 relay. Jessica Davis of Highland made her long awaited national debut, taking 2nd in the womens invitational 200 meters.
An Honorable mention has to go out to the Pete Knight Girls 4X800 meter relay team for the gritty 4th place performance in their event.

Highland Boys and Girls both take League Titles

The Highland High School Girls and boy’s teams won Golden League titles in Track and Field with a win in their final 2008 Golden League Dual meet against Quartz Hill High on Thursday at Quartz Hill stadium.
Both Bulldog teams finish with 7-0 record. Coach Thomas Counts said “it’s been a good year for both track teams. The boys have run hard all year and showed why they are League Champions 4 years in a row."
Counts was all thrilled with the performance of the girls' team. Wwe had some early season tough wins," he said, "but they have come on strong at the end of the season and we are expecting great things at League finals”.
High School Track Divisional Prelims
May 10th, 2008
Several AV prep athletes performed well at the CIF Southern Section Divisional Prelims, held today at Trabuco Hills High School.
Anthony Edwards blazed a 39.35 clocking to win his heat in the mens 300 meter hurdles, and Troy Arceneaux scorched a 14.73, winning his heat in the mens 110 Hurdles.
Highland High School's Jessica Davis was a double winner, posting the fastest time in the women's 100 (11.69) & 200 (23.92) meter dash. Palmdale High School- Christian Rivers was also a double winner, taking her heat in the womens 400 (56.31) & 200 (24.69).
